Desiigner Biography

news-detailsDesiigner is an American rapper and songwriter from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, New York City, New York. Born Sidney Royel Selby III on March 25, 1997, he started his career under the moniker of Designer Royel, as Royel is his middle name. It was his sister who convinced him to drop the middle name and add an extra i in Designer.

Desiigner released some songs such as "Danny DeVito" and "On the Low" with fellow rapper Phresher through SoundCloud before he premiered online his commercial debut single, "Panda", which went on to become a hit and catapulted him into stardom.

Kanye West heard the song and sampled it on the track "Pt. 2" off his own album, "The Life of Pablo". In early 2016, Desiigner joined 'Ye's GOOD Music, under which he re-released "Panda" in February. After signing a deal with the label, the young MC was featured on West's "Pablo", appearing on "Pt. 2" and "Freestyle 4".

"Panda" has so far peaked at No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100. It has spawned numerous remixes by various rappers, including Uncle Murda, Dave East, Lupe Fiasco, Meek Mill, Lil' Kim and Maino.

Fame, however, isn't always a fun thing for Desiigner. As "Panda" continues to climb up the charts, the rapper has constantly been criticized for his incomprehensible lyrics and similarities to Atlanta rapper Future.

Responding to the comparisons to Future, Desiigner told Complex, "God gave him a blessing, but he gave me a blessing too. I ain't gonna doubt the man's music. He make beautiful music too. Music is made every day. Big ups to him, big ups to Future. I actually like Future's music. I like his music, you feel me. I'm not a hater or a critic on him, you know, I do me. God bless him, God bless me."
