Sophie Episode 1.08 Ze Boy Next Door

Sophie and Matt are the perfect couple, except for the whole straight/gay thing. They're lamenting this fact one evening, when Sophie's new neighbor starts blaring crazy-loud techno music. Sophie goes across the hall to ask him to turn it down, and gets an earful of a different kind.

Verner, the neighbor, is a not-so-friendly Swiss guy with a thing for expensive shoes and a dislike of crying babies. Needless to say, Sophie and Verner do nothit it off. In fact, he slaps her with an official complaint, issued through their homeowners associations, accusing her of being culturally insensitive. Before Sophie goes completely ballistic, she asks Matt to play peacemaker.

Sophie's plan works -- really, REALLY well. So well that Matt goes into Verner's apartment and doesn't emerge all night.

Matt and Verner are suddenly a couple, and Sophie feels totally left out. To ease her jealousy and hopefully call a truce between Sophie and Verner, Matt invites Sophie and Robbie to Verner's place for dinner. Unfortunately, Sophie and Verner clash, and the dinner not only widens the rift between the neighbors but also drives a wedge between Sophie and Matt. To make matters worse, Matt asks Verner to go to his Aunt Ruthie's 90th birthday party instead of Sophie.

Meanwhile, over in Rick and Melissa world, Melissa realize that the only thing Rick knows about her is her taste in lingerie. (Actually, it's HIS taste in lingerie.) So, in celebration of their six-month "I love you" anniversary, Rick has to come up with the perfect gift. Whom does he turn to for advice?That's right: Sophie

Sophie tells Rick it isn't the gift that counts, it's the effort that goes into buying it. This gives him an idea, and it makes Sophie realize something: She's been s afraid of losing Matt that she's lost him. Instead of being jealous of Matt and Verner, she should be happy for him. So Sophie goes to Aunt Ruthie's birthday party to apologize to Matt and make a peace offering to Verner.

In the end, everybody gets a present. Melissa gets some toughtful gifts from Rick -- and probably some sickeningly expensive jewelry. Aunt Ruthie gets a "piece of art" from Sophie that's actually meant for Verner. And Sophie gets the best gift of all -- she gets Matt back. Now if only she could learn to love techno.
