AceShowbiz - Novak Djokovic has given a quick update on his condition after he was accidentally hit in the head by a metal water bottle at the Italian Open. In a social media post, the professional tennis player assured his online devotees that he's "fine."

"Thank you for the messages of concern. This was an accident and I am fine resting at the hotel with an ice pack," the 36-year-old wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, May 10. "See you all on Sunday."

The incident took place when Novak was signing a hat and a piece of paper for fans. In a video circulating online, a metal water bottle suddenly dropped on his head, prompting him to put both hands on his head and curl up on the ground.

A security guard was quick to shield Novak. He was then helped through the tunnel and into the locker room, where he received medical attention.

According to the Associated Press, the Serbian native had a bump on his head and was checked out by doctors. Meanwhile, Italian Tennis Federation spokesman Alessandro Catapano, claimed that the athlete had some blood on his head, but didn't require stitches.

The Italian Open itself has confirmed that the water bottle drop was not intentional. "Novak Djokovic on leaving the Central court at the end of his match was accidentally hit on the head by a water bottle while signing autographs to spectators," the Management of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia penned on X.

"He underwent appropriate medication and has already left the Foro Italico to return to his hotel," it added. "His condition is not a cause for concern."
