Following Henry Cavill's departure, season 4 and 5 of the hit Netflix series will see Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of fan-favorite protagonist Geralt of Rivia.

AceShowbiz - Fans of "The Witcher" have to bid farewell to the series after season 5. The official social media accounts of the Netflix series confirmed on Thursday, April 18 that the show has been greenlit for a fifth and final season.

The post revealed that season 4 has been kicked off with a table read. "It's official, The Witcher season 4 is in production," the account announced. "But that's not all, we're already planning season 5, which will be the final season."

While it was devastating news for fans, Netflix vowed to "bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion." It concluded, "See you on The Continent."

Season 4 and 5 will see Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of protagonist Geralt of Rivia from Henry Cavill. The former Superman depicter announced his exit from the show after its third season in October 2022.

"My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4," the 40-year-old shared on Instagram at the time.

Showing support for Hemsworth, Cavill added, "In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men." The "Man of Steel" star continued, "Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find."

On the same day, Hemsworth confirmed his new role in his own post on the platform. "As a Witcher fan I'm over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I'm honoured that he's handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf's blades for the next chapter of his adventure," the "Hunger Games" actor said.

"I may have some big boots to fill, but I'm truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world," he added.
