Having missed most of the hearings linked to the case, the former 'House of Cards' star stuns waiting reporters outside Massachusetts court when he arrives happy and relaxed with his lawyer.

AceShowbiz - Kevin Spacey made an unexpected appearance in court on Monday, June 03 during a pretrial hearing into an alleged groping incident.

The Oscar winner has opted not to show up for most of the hearings linked to the case, and he was expected to miss Monday's Massachusetts court showdown too, but he stunned waiting reporters when he arrived with his lawyer.

Appearing happy and relaxed, "The Usual Suspects" star refused to answer questions outside the courthouse. Inside, his lawyer fought to obtain data from his accuser's cell phone he hopes to use as evidence at trial. He believes he has the technology to retrieve deleted messages that will help him prove Spacey's innocence, according to TMZ.

The defence team has also asked for access to the phone owned by the alleged victim's mother.

Spacey's lawyer also urged the judge overseeing the case to send it to trial as soon as possible. The judge responded that the earliest the trial can begin in in the autumn (2019).

Spacey has been largely out of the public eye since a series of 2017 misconduct allegations cost him his roles in "House of Cards" and "All the Money in the World". He released a bizarre Christmas video at the end of last year (2018), in which he urged fans not to believe everything they heard about him in character as his "House of Cards" TV president Frank Underwood.
