In addition to apologizing, the 'Atlanta' star explains that he has been assuming a character whose views do not align with his own in the controversial clip.

AceShowbiz - Keith Stanfield occasionally posts on social media videos of himself rapping, but his recent video is certainly not something that should be shared during Pride Month. The "Atlanta" star received backlash after posting on Instagram a clip of him rapping a freestyle with homophobic lyrics.

In a since-deleted video, he could be seen rapping, "Boy you're dressed like trash you an eight six, take that choke chain back, that's some gay s**t/ F*g, I don't really want to brag but I'm straight rich/ F**k them b****es out the a** and I'm famous and all these gay n****s mad 'cause they hate this."

Soon after the video was posted, many people took to social media to slam Keith for his offensive lyrics. "Just a few weeks ago I said lakeith Stanfeild has the critical thinking of cactus and now I can add homophobic and ignorant to the list," one tweeted. Another added, "Lakeith Stanfield really uploaded a video of himself reciting a prewritten homophobic rap two weeks before his feature film drops, unbelievable."

Following the backlash, Keith has taken to his own Twitter page to apologize for his homophobic lyrics. He explained that he had been assuming a character whose views do not align with his own in the controversial clip. "I assume characters that have different viewpoints and different views on life and just different perspectives," he said in a video that was posted on the micro-blogging site.

"I've never been homophobic. Have never agreed with homophobic thought or hatred toward anyone for that matter. I'm a person that moves in love and I want to promote and continue to push that," the "Get Out" actor continued. "I apologize if I hurt anybody, sincerely. That wasn't my intention to be somebody that was out here just slinging arrows and hurting people, so I want them to know that I apologize that they had to feel sadness from that. So my sincerest apologies."

Keith wasn't the only celeb who received backlash for rapping homophobic lyrics. Prior to this, Offset came under fire for spitting, "I cannot vibe with queers," on YFN Lucci's "Boss Life".
