'Daria' Reboot Is in the Works on MTV Studios

'Daria' reboot joins other projects including 'The Real World' update, a new version of the unscripted show 'Made' and a live-action reboot of sci-fi series 'Aeon Flux'.

AceShowbiz - "Daria" is the latest series which will be getting a reboot treatment. The animated sitcom which aired from 1997 to 2002 is set to be revived on the newly-launched studio by MTV named MTV Studios with "Daria & Jodie" as the working title.

Announced on Thursday, June 21, MTV Studios is new production unit that hopes to make new shows and reboot old ones. Grace Edwards ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt", "Inside Amy Schumer") has been tapped to write the new series.

Created by Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn, "Daria" followed Daria Morgendorffer, a smart, acerbic, and somewhat misanthropic teenage girl and her best friend aspiring artist Jane Lane. It is set in the fictional suburban American town of Lawndale and is a satire of high school life, and full of allusions to and criticisms of popular culture and social classes.

"Daria" reboot joins other projects including "The Real World" update, a new version of the unscripted show "Made" and a live-action reboot of sci-fi series "Aeon Flux" which will hail from "Teen Wolf" writer Jeff Davis and be produced by Gale Anne Hurd ("Fear the Walking Dead").

"MTV has the biggest collection of hit youth franchises that spans more than three decades of content and over 200 titles, part of which have fueled our resurgence," MTV President Chris McCarthy said in a statement. "With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchises with new partners."

The new studio will also produce some new series including "The Valley" (working title) and "MTV's Straight Up Ghosted". "The Valley" is a coming of age docuseries in the vein of "The Hills" and "Siesta Key" and follows a group of young friends in Nogales, Arizona. Meanwhile, "MTV's Straight Up Ghosted" is about young people attempting to confront lost friends, romantic partners, and family members about being ghosted.
