AceShowbiz - Jared Leto's Joker may finally get his own movie soon. The actor has reportedly agreed with Warner Bros. to reprise his take on the role for a newly-announced standalone movie. The untitled Joker project is said to be in early stages of development and does not have a writer or director attached.
The new spin-off will be set within the DC Extended Universe, which also plays home to "Justice League", "Wonder Woman", "Suicide Squad", the upcoming "Aquaman" and more. In addition to starring, the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman will executive produce the solo pic.
Plot details of the movie are currently unknown, but Variety suggests that the studio's idea is to expand on the world created by "Suicide Squad" and tie into future installments of that property. It's also unclear whether the movie will take place before or after the previously announced "Suicide Squad 2", which is believed to go into production sometime in 2019.
This, however, won't be the only Joker movie that WB is currently working on. The studio is already developing a Joker origins movie, which will be directed by Todd Phillips and will potentially star Joaquin Phoenix. The film will exist outside the DCEU and take place in Gotham City in the early 1980s and have more a look of a gritty crime drama than comic-book movie.
In addition to the two new Joker movies, WB is developing an untitled Harley Quinn project starring Margot Robbie. Cathy Yan is reportedly in talks to direct the spin-off. Furthermore, there will be an untitled Joker and Harley Quinn project, with Robbie and Leto reprising their roles as the crazed lovebirds. It was reported last year that the studio was in talks with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa to write and direct, but it's unclear if a deal is closed just yet.
