The 'Frasier' alum is set to play a tough state attorney on the upcoming FOX series.

AceShowbiz - Kelsey Grammer is set to return to TV as a tough state attorney after replacing Brian d'Arcy James in new legal drama series "Proven Innocent".

James played the role of Gore Bellows in the show's pilot, but the part has been recast by "Empire" co-creator Danny Strong and writer David Elliott, according to Deadline.

James impressed producers, who are hoping to cast him in a different role.

"Proven Innocent" will also star Rachelle Lefevre, who plays a top justice seeker after she was wrongfully convicted as a teenager, along with her brother, for murder.

Grammer's character Bellows was the prosecutor who initially put her behind bars - and still believes she's guilty.

"The subject matter is very timely and worth exploring. I am excited to be a part of that," said former "Frasier" star Grammer.
