The first part of the finale sees the contestants battling in three rounds, including new singles, most memorable performances and contestant's choice.

AceShowbiz - The first night of ABC's "American Idol" finale aired on Monday, May 20. The Top 3 finalists, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Gabby Barrett and Maddie Poppe, delivered incredible performances in order to nab the champion title of the revamped singing competition show. The three would debut their brand-new original singles before performing their favorite performances from earlier in the season.

Mentored by Bobby Bones, Caleb was the first contestant to take the stage to perform his coronation song "Johnny Cash Heart". Judge Katy Perry loved the song, though she felt like it was one of his weakest performances. Fellow judge Luke Bryan echoed Katy's remark, saying that Caleb looked more tight than usual.

Gabby followed it up with a spunky performance of her new single called "Rivers Deep". While she looked nervous and uncomfortable at the beginning, she managed to get herself back and took it up a notch at the end. Lionel Richie commented that her live sounded different from the studio version, encouraging her to keep that in mind.

Maddie later took the stage to perform her own new song, "Going Going Gone", written by amazing songwriter Julia Michaels. As usual, she showcased her unique style and nailed the song with her dreamy voice. Luke said that she was the most comfortable during the performances so far.

The next round was opened with Caleb singing "Don't Close Your Eyes" by Keith Whitley. He seemed to take the advice from the judges from the previous perfomance as he looked more comfortable this time. While strumming his acoustic guitar, he impressed the judges and the audience. Lionel complimented him on his voice. Katy agreed, adding that she also felt Caleb let his textured voice come through.

The next performer was Gabby, who opted for Miranda Lambert's "Little Red Wagon". She nailed it the second time, prompting Lionel to say that she owned the stage and was "selling her goods."

Maddie later sang her memorable original song, "Don't Ever Let Your Children Grow Up". Luke was happy that she chose to sing the song because he missed that song. Meanwhile, Katy loved the fact that she took a rish by showing off that she's a songwriter. The "Fireworks" hitmaker added that Maddie was authentic.

Singers who were eliminated previously returned to the show and delivered parts of their awesome original songs.

The next performance was from Caleb, who sang "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash with his strong vocal. Katy dubbed the performance fun and Luke was touched by the video of him in his hometown of Dallas.

Before Gabby took the stage to perform "Don't Stop Believin' " by Journey, the viewers were taken to her hometown of Pittsburgh. During the performance, she amazed judges with her amazing vocal range and even got the audience to sing along with her. Steve Perry surprised Gabby by being in the audience and cheering her on.

Maddie rounded out the night with her rendition of classic "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. Mixed with her dreamy-like vibe, her voice blew everyone's mind as she met with a lot of cheers. Katy admitted that she's voting her following her stunning performance.

Voting is open until Monday, May 21 at 9 A.M. ET. The winner of this season of "American Idol" will be announced on the same day at 9 P.M. ET on ABC.
