AceShowbiz - John Cena and Nikki Bella decide to go separate ways after dating for 6 years. The WWE couple heartbreakingly announced that they called off their engagement in a statement on Sunday, April 15.
"While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a deal of love and respect for one another," the pair said to Us Weekly. "We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives."
The former couple, who got engaged last year, had been sparking breakup rumors in the latest "Total Divas" preview, in which they appeared to have a second thought on getting married. "I would never force you not to be a mom," 40-year-old John told Nikki, to whom he proposed last April in front of 70.000 fans, while holding back his tears. "I thought I could really that and I just can't," Nikki answered, to which John responded, "I'm not sure we should go through with this."
John and 34-year-old Nikki started dating back in 2012. The pair were last seen together in public at Wrestlemania 34 on Sunday, April 8. John recently took to his Instagram account to share a photo featuring a quote from Walt Whitman. "We were together. I forget the rest," the quote read while the pro-wrestler/actor left the post captionless.
Many fans expressed their sadness over their breakup. "My heart is so sad for my favorite couple. I hate this so much. So much love and support for you and Nikki both. Sending up lots of prayers and I pray yall work things out one day soon. You are both such a beautiful couple and true love will always find a way," a fan wrote a heartfelt message on the comment section.
Nikki also confirmed their split on her account. "We love you all (heart emoji)," she wrote in the caption.
John previously admitted that his relationship with Nikki indeed took a lot of work. "Relationships are hard. Don't ever think that love is easy," the "Blockers" actor said. "Love is beautiful, but we've had to come to the realization after being together for five years that love is not easy."
"We work every day on us. We have our problems just like everybody else. Some of our problems are very public, some of them aren't. But we work every day on us. Anytime I get upset, I always just realize that I can't live without her and I love her and that's why I cave in on a lot of stuff," he added.
