The reality star announces that Lauren Burnham is having 'a bunny in the oven,' but some Twitter users find the joke 'disgusting.'

AceShowbiz - It's not funny, Arie Luyendyk Jr.! "The Bachelor" controversial alum's April Fools joke backfired after he attempted to prank people by announcing that his fiancee Lauren Burnham was pregnant with their first child. But to his surprise, the responses were far from what he expected.

"Secrets finally out, we have a bunny in the oven! @laurenburnham91," the race car driver/realtor tweeted on Sunday, April 1. He also shared a picture of a woman, who was assumed to be Lauren, sporting an apparent baby bump.

Arie later replied to his own tweet after an hour, saying, "APRIL FOOLS!"

Some people, however, found the joke "disgusting." A user took a jab at the pair, who are currently living together in Scottsdale, Arizona, writing, "You both are disgusting. As someone who struggles with fertility and would love nothing more than to have a baby this is so offensive."

Another social media user also slammed the pair. "Come on. Be better than that," he/she tweeted. "it's not a joke for many struggling families to get pregnant, it's extremely expensive and it's heartbreaking. I wish nothing but the best for Arie and Lauren but this is not funny, it’s cruel."

"If this is a joke. It's very poor taste," another user added, before saying, "But you don't have a good track record on decision making." It was clearly a reference to the drama Arie made after calling his engagement off with winner of "The Bachelor" season 22, Becca Kufrin, to pursue his love for Lauren, who was the runner-up.

The backlash didn't stop there as another user wrote, "Shame on y'all for this. So many women are trying everything they can to conceive and then you joke about this? It's just really in poor taste.. A 'we eloped' photo would have been much more appropriate."

Following the criticism, Arie took to Instagram Stories to respond to it. Alongside a photo of a Dutch Baby recipe, the reality star wrote, "Sorry if you were offended, but we really are making a dutch baby."

Arie and Burnham have been saying that they're planning for a wedding soon. "We're both very excited about marriage and starting a family," Lauren previously revealed. Meanwhile, Arie said that he wanted to have two to four kids, adding, "If we get lucky, maybe we'd have twins."
