The 'Sex and the City' star shows her interest in politics by weighing a Democratic primary run against Gov. Andrew Cuomo in September.

AceShowbiz - Cynthia Nixon shows her interest in politics. The "Sex and the City" actress is mulling the possibility of running for governor of New York, challenging Andrew Cuomo in Democratic primary in September.

Cynthia, who is a liberal activist, has engaged in serious talk with veteran campaign operatives Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers, who ran Bill de Blasio's first campaign for New York City mayor in 2013. Both campaign operatives have been assembled to play a major role as her staffers.

"Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it," Cynthia's spokeswoman, Rebecca Sides Capellan, said.

Cynthia, who has been active in New York politics for years, has been studying other policy areas, besides education which has become her focus. However, the actress has not officially declared her candidacy.

When asked about the possibility of Cynthia running for governor, Mr. Andrew said on Tuesday, March 6, "On people who may or not run for governor on both sides of the aisle, we'll deal with that as it progresses."

The actress has been critical to Mr. Andrew for months. Cynthia sees New York City's subway system as one of Mr. Andrew's major political vulnerabilities.

Her candidacy would mean extraordinary challenge for Mr. Andrew as the star can gain national media interest. However, when asked about this possible challenge and the involvement of former de Blasio operatives, the two-terms incumbent governor responded with a laugh, "In this business, you can't let these things bother you. Otherwise you won't last long."

Mr. Andrew, the son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, won during his candidacy in 2014 against Zephyr Teachout. He won 62 percent of the vote against Zephyr's 34 percent of vote. This led to the speculation that Mr. Andrew might be vulnerable to a challenge coming from well-financed progressive. However, polls indicate that he is still popular among Democratic voters in New York.
