Aside from considering himself a 'gay man right now,' the 33-year-old actor reveals that he doesn't rule out the possibility of being in a same-sex relationship in the future.

AceShowbiz - Andrew Garfield has sent people into a frenzy after claiming that he's gay. During a recent panel discussion for his new London-based play "Angels in America", "The Amazing Spider-Man" actor said that he considers himself a "gay man right now just without the physical act."

"My only time off during rehearsals - every Sunday I would have eight friends over and we would just watch 'Ru'," Garfield said, in reference to "RuPaul's Drag Race", as reported by Gay Times. "This is my life outside of this play. I am a gay man right now just without the physical act - that's all."

It's unclear if he's just joking or being serious. In his new play, Garfield plays a gay character diagnosed with AIDS. And during the panel discussion, the 33-year-old actor admitted that watching "Drag Race" helped him prepare for his role.

Garfield went on to admit that "as far as I know, I am not a gay man," but did say that he doesn't rule out the possibility of being in a same-sex relationship in the future. "Maybe I'll have an awakening later in my life, which I'm sure will be wonderful and I'll get to explore that part of the garden," he said. "But right now I'm secluded to my area, which is wonderful as well."

Soon after the news broke out, many Twitter users condemned the actor's remarks. A fan tweeted, "I love andrew but this is CRAZY!" Another user commented, "Here for ALL of the hate. I can't stand when white people try oppression like they're at costco."

There's also a user who said, "oh now garfield is part of the heteroflexible movement," while another commented, "This article grosses me out.Ur a talented guy,but seem to be completely oblivious to what is coming out of ur mouth."

Meanwhile, some others mocked the actor, whose movie "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" performed below expectations. "That's why Spidey's aerial traverse has a soft fluidity," one user tweeted. Another sarcastically wrote, "I'M NOT SPIDER-MAN ANY MORE AND I NEED ATTENTION."
