The nominees show the lack of movies with gay content as 'Moonlight' and 'Star Trek Beyond' are the only pics making the cut in the Outstanding Film - Wide Release category.

AceShowbiz - The nominations for the 28th Annual GLAAD Media Awards have been announced. While the list sees familiar names in TV and music categories, it highlights the lack of major films with gay content as only two movies, "Moonlight" and "Star Trek Beyond", make the cut in the Outstanding Film - Wide Release category.
This marks the first time in more than a decade that a popular category has just two nominees. GLAAD says this is "reflecting [a] need for more progress in that industry."
"Supergirl" joins the likes of "The Fosters", "Grey's Anatomy", "How to Get Away with Murder" and "Orphan Black" as nominees for Outstanding Drama Series. Meanwhile, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend", "Modern Family" and "Transparent" are among strong contenders for Outstanding Comedy Series.
FOX's "The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event" and HBO's "Looking: The Movie" are vying for Outstanding TV Movie or Limited Series prize, while "I Am Cait" lands a nod for Outstanding Reality Program. "The Bold and the Beautiful" is the sole nomination in Outstanding Daily Drama category.
In music, Elton John, Lady GaGa, Frank Ocean, Sia Furler and Tegan and Sara are pitted against each other for the Outstanding Music Artist title.
GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis says in a press release, "At a time when progress is at a critical juncture, it is imperative that Hollywood tell more LGBTQ stories that reflect the community's rich diversity -- and build understanding that brings all communities closer together." She adds, "This year's nominees have created images and storylines that challenge misconceptions and broaden understanding, accelerating acceptance and equality for LGBTQ people across the globe."
The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held in Los Angeles on April 1 and in New York on May 6. Below are the major nominations in movie, music and TV categories.
