Kathie says Kris gave no comment during Bruce's '20/20' interview because 'this was new for [her]' and she's 'trying to get her act together.'

AceShowbiz - Kathie Lee Gifford has come to the defense of Kris Jenner in light of Bruce Jenner's gender transition interview. Kris has been criticized for giving no comment during her ex-husband's "20/20" interview with Diane Sawyer while his two other ex-wives both spoke to the camera and Kathie is explaining the reason for it.

On Monday, April 27, Kathie told her "Today" co-host Hoda Kotb, "The other [wives Chrystie Crownover and Linda Thompson], both fine women, had a long time to get used to this. This was new to Kris. She's trying to get her act together. She's trying to be a good friend to him. Trying to still be a good parent. It's complicated in ways that we cannot even comprehend. Frank and I send our love and prayers to Bruce and his family. God loves you and so do we."

Kathie said she and her husband Frank Gifford were "shocked" when Bruce told them about his transitioning. "I never saw this coming," she shared. "It shocked me as much... Frank had told me." She added, "I talked with Bruce last week, and nothing that I said or he said to me will be revealed, but I'm glad that we did have a long talk because he was prepared for everything he was going to say and even more, and I'm grateful for that. We all want to how how to go forward. We all want to love him through this."

Kathie, who is the godmother to Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner, praised Bruce for his brave public announcement. "We also know that there are children who are... that have to learn how to deal with this," she said, "If you could imagine the surprise - I mean how do you deal with that? The way you do is ultimately when you put love first and try to put yourself in someone else's high heels, I suppose, and Louboutins in their case. The story isn't over obviously. The transition goes on."

While Kris didn't speak to camera, she did gave her support to her ex-husband on Twitter. "Not only was I able to call him my husband for 25 years and father of my children, I am now able to call him my hero," she tweeted.
