Jamie Dornan on 'Fifty Shades of Grey': It's Love Story
Movie

The Irish actor discusses the movie based on a novel by E.L. James in a new magazine interview, saying, 'The love story is more important than the BDSM aspect.'

AceShowbiz - Jamie Dornan says he understands why some people think "Fifty Shades of Grey" is misogynistic. The Irish actor talks about his upcoming movie in a new interview with ELLE U.K., saying that the steamy flick based on a novel of the same name by E.L. James is much more than just a BDSM-themed story.

"I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But actually, more men are submissives than women. Very powerful men. It's a far bigger scene than I imagined: in pretty much any city in the world that you could name, people want to get spanked with a paddle with studs on it," he explains.

"The love story is more important than the BDSM aspect," he adds in the interview published on the magazine's February issue. "I mean, we are going to tell a love story, you know, it can't just be what happens in the Red Room, that's not a film. There's so much more going on than that."

Dornan is playing a businessman named Christian Grey who is into BDSM, while Dakota Johnson portrays his girlfriend Ana in the movie set for release on February 13. The star of "The Fall" had to be away for a while for filming and he admits it's now difficult that he is a father to a young daughter.

"I've had to be away the last couple of weekends, and I come back and I barely recognize her, and it's awful; she changes so much. And then I have this huge fear that she won't recognize me. The beard helps, but I had to shave it off a couple of times, so she's been shocked for the first few hours. She looks at me like: 'Do I love you? I think I love you.' I have to win back her trust," he shares.
