Scoring a box office victory over the Memorial Day weekend, "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian" will be enjoyable small screen. Cable channel FX Network has nabbed an exclusive TV rights from 20th Century Fox to have the Ben Stiller-starring movie played in November 2011.
As part of the deal, FX will pay 12% of the movie's domestic box office. So far the pic has brought in around $200 million in ticket sales, meaning FX could fork out as many as $24 million. The rights are valid within 4 years since the deal is signed.
The addition of "Museum 2" onto FX's tray is rooting from the success of first movie "Night at the Museum" which was broadcast on the channel last week prior to the sequel's theater debut. The TV screening reportedly received decent number of ratings.
Beside "Museum 2", FX has also scored deals for the TV rights to other box office movies such as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", "Monsters vs. Aliens" and "Star Trek" as well as the upcoming potential box office scorer "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen".
