In a future where humanity has become utterly dependent on a vast network of sleek, helpful robots, one man stands alone in his distrust of the machines. Detective Del Spooner, played by Will Smith, is a Chicago police officer with a deep-seated prejudice against the artificial beings that now serve every household and industry. When the brilliant founder of U.S. Robotics, Dr. Alfred Lanning ( James Cromwell ), is found dead in what appears to be a suicide, Spooner is called to investigate. His suspicions are immediately aroused, especially when he encounters a unique robot named Sonny (voiced by Alan Tudyk) who seems to possess emotions and a will of its own. Spooner’s investigation, which pits him against the company’s icy executive ( Bruce Greenwood ) and a skeptical robot psychologist ( Bridget Moynahan ), uncovers a chilling conspiracy that threatens the very foundations of the Three Laws of Robotics. Directed by Alex Proyas, this gripping adventure blends noir detective work with explosive sci-fi action, creating a tense atmosphere where the line between protector and predator becomes dangerously blurred.
