Mandisa, whose full name is Mandisa Hundley, was discovered deceased in her Franklin, Tennessee residence on Thursday, April 18 at the age of 47. Her identity was confirmed by a medical examiner over the weekend.
Police spokesperson Max Winitz stated, "At this time, there is no indication that the death was the result of suspicious or criminal activity." The department extended its condolences to Mandisa's family, friends and fans.
Born in California, Mandisa rose to fame as a contestant on Season 5 of "American Idol" in 2006, where she placed in the Top 10. Her debut album, "True Beauty", was released in 2007. She became widely recognized in the Christian music industry, with her 2013 album "Overcomer" winning the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
Mandisa's team at The Media Collective offered a statement expressing their lack of knowledge regarding the cause of death or any other details, requesting prayers for her family and loved ones.
Representatives for "American Idol" expressed their grief and extended their condolences to Mandisa's family.
In 2017, Mandisa publicly shared her struggles with depression during an interview with Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America". She attributed the onset of severe depression to the loss of her close friend and background singer, LaKisha Mitchell.
