The long-awaited sequel to '28 Days Later' and '28 Weeks Later' is set to hit theaters next summer, promising to reignite the beloved franchise with a fresh cast and a visionary trilogy plan.

AceShowbiz - Danny Boyle's "28 Years Later" is scheduled to release on June 20, 2025. The film is the third installment in the "28 Days Later" franchise, following the original 2002 film and the 2007 sequel.

Boyle returns to direct from a screenplay written by Alex Garland, who also penned the original film. Both Garland and Boyle are producing the film alongside Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice and Bernie Bellew. Cillian Murphy, who starred in "28 Days Later", returns as an executive producer.

The cast of "28 Years Later" includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson [Aaron Johnson] and Ralph Fiennes. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but the film is described as a sequel to "28 Days Later".

The original "28 Days Later" starred a largely unknown Cillian Murphy as a bike courier who discovers the release of a contagious virus upon awaking from a coma. The film revitalized the zombie horror genre and received critical acclaim.

"28 Years Later" is intended to kick off a trilogy. "Candyman" director Nia DaCosta is reportedly in talks to direct the second film.

In addition to "28 Years Later", Boyle has several other projects in the works, including a stage adaptation of "The Matrix" and a sequel to "Trainspotting".
